Edward Dunham’s story begins in the rugged mining towns of Globe-Miami, Arizona — a place steeped in the dust and sparkle of the earth. Growing up surrounded by the copper mines and rich desert landscapes, Edward developed an early fascination with the natural treasures hidden beneath the surface. His father, a man with eclectic knowledge of geology and a keen eye for identifying gems and minerals, nurtured that curiosity. Together, they spent countless hours collecting stones, studying their patterns, and appreciating the stories each gem told about the earth’s deep history.

From childhood, Edward was captivated by the transformation of raw minerals into polished beauty. Watching his father identify, cut, and trade gems gave him not only an appreciation for their natural value but also for the craftsmanship and care involved in revealing their brilliance. Through collecting, moving, cutting, polishing, and even selling rough materials, Edward came to understand the same truth that humanity has known for millennia — that gems are more than mere stones; they are symbols of endurance, beauty, and meaning.

Life moved quickly, and Edward started a family at a young age. With four daughters to provide for and limited means, he faced a familiar challenge: wanting to give his loved ones beautiful things, but not always being able to afford them. That’s when inspiration struck — if I can’t buy them jewelry, I’ll make it myself.

What began as a simple act of love grew into a lifelong passion. Edward started by purchasing jewelry components and assembling them into unique creations. Soon, he discovered other designers whose work inspired him, and he began blending their pieces with his own. But when he started cutting and polishing cabochons, a deeper passion emerged — and the desire to learn silversmithing became irresistible.

Today, Edward continues to refine his artistry at KP Studios in Phoenix, Arizona, where he’s learning advanced silversmithing and jewelry-making techniques. His business, Dunham Gems and Jewelry, is a culmination of his lifelong love for the earth’s treasures, his dedication to craftsmanship, and his commitment to creating beauty for those he loves.
